Aeroplex inaugurates aviation components repair base near Budapest Airport

Aeroplex

State-owned aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul company Aeroplex inaugurated a HUF 2bn components repair base near Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport on Friday.

Aeroplex, owned by N7 Holding National Defence Industry Innovation, aims to be among the biggest MRO companies in Europe, National Economy Minister Marton Nagy said at the ceremony. He added that 100 people would work at the 7,300sqm base.

Aeroplex managing director Arpad Demeny said there was a big shortage of aviation component repair capacity across Europe.

The new base could handle the repair of up to 20,000 aircraft wheels, 800 brakes and close to 30,000 engine components a year.

Hungary’s new Digital Citizenship Programme popular

Digital Citizenship Hungary

I trust that the Digital Citizenship Programme application will gain broad support, many people will use it because they will see that it is easier to handle matters with it and identify themselves, Antal Rogán, the head of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office, said at a conference on Thursday.

Rogán said the programme, which aims to expand paperless state administration, started operating in September and currently 350,000-360,000 users downloaded the application for it.

The goal is for that number to be between 3m and 5m by the middle or the end of 2026, he added.

forint wage growth salary money minimum wage

The minimum wage will rise by 9% in 2025, by 13% in 2026 and by 14% in 2027, Sándor Czomba, the state secretary for employment policy, said at an event on Thursday.

Czomba noted that the minimum wage would rise by 12% on average in the next three years. The minimum wage for skilled labourers would increase by 7% next year, he added. It wasn’t easy, but an agreement on wages has been reached by the representatives of the government, employers and unions, he said. Here’s a convenient way to get to Budapest Airport: perfect alternative of the 100E shuttle bus

Car sharing parking lots Budapest budapest airport

GreenGo, the popular car-sharing service, has launched a new dedicated parking zone at Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport (Budapest Airport), near Terminal 2 in the Holiday Parking area. This expansion complements their existing service, where travellers can park at the nearby Airport Hotel parking lot and take a free shuttle bus to the terminal.

Get to Budapest Airport with GreenGo!

The new parking zone, designed for 15 GreenGo vehicles, responds to the growing demand for cost-effective and flexible transportation options to the airport, Economx writes. According to the company, their airport services have seen a 25-30% annual increase in users, signalling a strong preference for car-sharing solutions.

Despite reporting losses of HUF 327.91 million (EUR 800,000) in 2023, GreenGo’s revenue grew significantly, reaching HUF 1.51 billion (EUR 3.7 million), up from HUF 985.63 million (EUR 2.4 million) in 2022. This growth reflects the increasing popularity of the service, especially for airport commutes.

Prices and availability

According to BDPST24, the process for starting and ending a rental in the GreenGo Airport Terminal Zone at the Holiday Parking remains the same as the usual service. However, additional fees apply on top of the regular package rates:

  • For departure to the airport:
Green Premium package: HUF 2,490 (EUR 6.1)
Other packages: HUF 3,190 (EUR 7.8)
  • For departure from the airport:
Green Premium package: HUF 990 (EUR 2.4)
Other packages: HUF 1,680 (EUR 4.1)

These charges apply when renting a vehicle at the airport parking zone.

Albanian Antifa activist arrested in Paris over violent clashes in Budapest

police car crime statistics Hungarian policeman antifa

An Albanian Antifa activist accused of committing acts of violence at a Budapest rally was arrested in Paris last Tuesday, the man’s attorneys told the AFP news agency.

Hungarian authorities have requested 32-year-old Rexhino Abazaj’s extradition so he can be held accountable “for his role in violent conflicts in Budapest in February 2023”, AFP said.

He is accused to have been a member of a group clashing with the participants of a demonstration held in connection with the anniversary of the Nazi breakout of the Castle District during the siege of the capital in February 1945.

Abazaj’s attorneys said he would not accept the arrest warrant, triggering a review of the request which could last several months, AFP said.

Budapest’s landmark Chain Bridge is illuminated with the colours of the Ukrainian flag with the message “we must not lose our moral compass and we must not lose our friends”, Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony said.

Karácsony noted on Facebook that “the most destructive war in Europe since the second world war” has been underway for a thousand days.

He said there was no moral or political excuse for Putin-led Russia’s total war against Ukraine. “Standing on Ukraine’s side cannot be a matter of deliberation or calculation, only a matter of conviction,” he added.

Since the first days of the war, Budapest has been “trying to maintain the closest possible cooperation” with international and Hungarian partners that organise humanitarian aid, including the capitals of the Visegrád region, local councils from Transcarpathia and UNICEF, he said.

Hungarian government to re-launch home renovation subsidy programme

Hungarian government to re-launch home renovation subsidy programme

The government will re-launch its home renovation subsidy programme “to ensure financial security and prosperity to families,” the minister of culture and innovation told a press briefing on Monday.

Hungarian government to support home renovation

Balázs Hankó said “we are a family friendly country and nation … the Hungarian government stands by families whatever they may say in Brussels or whatever trends Europe may promote.”

Hankó said next year’s budget would include an “unprecedented” 3,754 billion forints earmarked for family support, 447 billion forints more than in 2024.

Zsófia Koncz, the ministry’s state secretary for families, said the relaunched programme was aimed at promoting “Hungarian families, the local economy and construction sector, in line with the government’s new economy policy action plan.”

The scheme will target more than 100,000 families living at 2,887 small settlements, Koncz said, adding that families with children under 25 were eligible to grants up to 3 million forints and a subsidised loan of 6 million forints.

Will Roman Catholic priests be obliged to report suspected pedophile crimes in Hungary?

Children Fear Pedophile Paedophile child abuse fidesz

The opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) will submit again a bill to lawmakers that would legally obligate people to report suspected pedophile crimes, the party’s deputy leader, Ágnes Vadai, said at a press conference on Sunday.

The bill would compel the Hungarian Catholic Church to report such crimes, too, Vadai said. She added that currently the Catholic Church could order an internal probe if there was suspicion of pedophile crimes, but then take a decision “on a subjective basis” on whether or not to file a report with the police.

She noted that a bill on the matter DK submitted to lawmakers in 2021 had been rejected by the governing party majority in parliament’s justice commiteee.

Budapest party tram

Budapest, Hungary’s magnificent and vibrant capital, is celebrating its 151st birthday today. To mark the occasion, a party tram operated on line 49 from Friday to Sunday, with LavaLava onboard.

According to Szeretlek Magyarország, the tram ran between Kelenföld train station and Deák Square station from 5 PM to 11 PM. Passengers could only board at these two stations, and the tram was emptied after each round to allow as many people as possible to take part. The tram’s capacity reached 80.

The tram did not make any stops between the two stations, allowing passengers to enjoy some of the most picturesque views of Budapest without interruption. You can view some photos from the event in the article by Szeretlek Magyarország.

The party tram service began last year when Budapest celebrated its 150th birthday. Below are some photos from last year:

Meteorologists predict snow across multiple Hungarian regions next week

Meteorologists say that snow will cover multiple Hungarian regions next week

Meteorologists have forecasted that a Mediterranean cyclone will reach Hungary next Friday, potentially bringing widespread snowfall to many regions. The Northern and Western counties are expected to have the highest likelihood of being blanketed in a thin layer of snow.

According to Blikk, the week will begin with a western breeze, showers, and snowfall in the mountainous regions on Monday. By Tuesday, a cold front is expected to move into the Carpathian Basin, bringing stormy winds and significant rainfall. However, in the Transdanubia region, snow is likely instead of rain.

Tuesday may prove challenging for individuals with cardiovascular conditions due to sharp temperature fluctuations. While temperatures in the morning will range from 7 to 15°C, they are expected to drop considerably in the afternoon.

Thursday is predicted to be dry, sunny, and windy, with freezing temperatures at dawn and daytime highs ranging between 3 and 9°C.

On Friday, the arrival of a Mediterranean cyclone will dominate the Carpathian Basin, resulting in snowfall across most parts of Hungary. The Northern and Western counties are most likely to experience significant snow cove

Orbán cabinet: Hungary can receive 6.61 billion euros from the EU in 2025

euro money chinese loan fine

An agreement on the 2025 EU budget was reached after “intensive discussions”, Péter Benő Banai, a state secretary at the Finance Ministry, said after a meeting of EU finance ministers in Brussels early Saturday. He added that Hungary could receive 6.61 billion in 2025 on development programs accepted by the European Parliament before.

Banai, who represented the Hungarian presidency of the Council of the EU at the ECOFIN meeting, said the 2025 budget contained EUR 199.4bn of total commitments and EUR 155.2bn of total payments.

He added that the agreement secured financing for programmes that enhance the EU’s competitiveness as well as financing for reconstruction after flooding in Central and Eastern Europe and Spain.

The budget follows the principal of “budgetary prudence” which means that there will be “flexibility” in 2025, Banai said.

Banai added that the European Commission could transfer EUR 6.61 billion for Hungary in 2025 on programs the European Parliament accepted and for aims defined by the Hungarian government.
