Celebrations in honour of the 120th anniversary of the Hungarian Olympic Committee
Budapest, December 15 (MTI) – Budapest is ready to tap on the opportunity offered by the International Olympic Committee to bid for hosting the 2024 Olympic Games, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Tuesday.
Addressing celebrations in honour of the 120th anniversary of the Hungarian Olympic Committee (MOB), Orban said there is wide-scale national consensus behind the MOB, which would prepare Budapest’s Olympic bid, and that the government fully supports its efforts, too.
Hungary would be hosting not only the first Summer Games in Budapest, but also in Central Europe, “35 years after the country had shed its shackles of oppression and earned its freedom,” he said.
“Hungary believes that sports are always more important than any political interests and it can never become a stage for political battles,” the prime minister added.
