Chilling winter to barge into Hungary next week, bringing temperatures as low as -15 degrees

“Which coat should I wear next week? All of them”, a paraphrase of an Időkép joke would fit if we consider the chilling winter weather Hungary will experience next week. Most regions of the country will see a drastic temperature drop, and the thermometres may show digits below -15 °C (5 °F).
Chilling winter to barge into Hungary
According to Blikk, winter will show its true nature in the Carpathian Basin in the next few days as a dry and cold air mass will rule over this part of Europe. The temperature will drop sharply and leave daytime warming behind for a while.

Today started with temperatures around freezing point in all parts of Hungary, and meteorologists agree that the situation will worsen. In the Northern valleys sheltered from the wind, temperatures could be below -10 °C (14 °F) today at dawn.

Second half of next week may bring relief
Based on the Hungarian tabloid, in those places, the temperature can reach new lows by Tuesday and Wednesday, with the thermometres showing -15 °C or less. Daytime hours will not bring warmth since the temperature will be below freezing point even at midday in most parts of Hungary. The maximum is calculated to be around 5 °C (41 °F) in the Southern regions. The atmosphere will be dry, so extensive snowfall is not expected despite the low temperature.

The first signs of a moderate warming were detected for the second half of next week.
February 2025 in Budapest is expected to be slightly cooler than the historical average. Budapest usually has a light touch of snow in February, with an average of 4 snowy days.
