Clock change affects numerous Hungarian and even international public transport lines

Change language:

Clock change is coming on Sunday, 29 March, which means clocks will officially move forward from 2:00 AM to 3:00 AM. The timetables of affected domestic and international trains, as well as BKK services and local and regional bus routes, will be adjusted accordingly, the Hungarian state railways’ MÁV Group and the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) told MTI.

Railway operator MÁV Group announced several changes

According to the MÁV Group’s statement, passengers travelling during the affected night period are advised to check their journeys in advance using the MÁV website, the MÁV+ mobile application, or the journey planners available at mavplusz.hu and jegy.mav.hu. These platforms provide up-to-date and accurate travel plans, taking into account the special timetable in place on the night of the clock change.

The time change will affect train services on the following lines: Budapest–Győr, Budapest–Esztergom, Budapest–Székesfehérvár, Siófok–Kaposvár, Budapest–Pusztaszabolcs–Dunaújváros, Budapest–Vác–Szob, Budapest–Veresegyház–Vác, Budapest–Cegléd–Szolnok–Debrecen, Zajta–Fehérgyarmat, Budapest–Újszász–Szolnok and Budapest–Lajosmizse, as well as the tram-train service between Szeged and Hódmezővásárhely and several international services.

They added that, due to the clock change, there will also be timetable changes affecting certain Volán bus services in the Gödöllő, Érd, Kiskunhalas, Hódmezővásárhely and Debrecen regions. Some local transport services in Szeged and Nyíregyháza will also be affected. Further details are available on the MÁV Group’s website.

BKK also announced a modified timetable due to Sunday’s clock change

According to BKK, on the night of Saturday 28 March to Sunday 29 March, all night services scheduled to depart between 2:00 AM and 2:59 AM will not run. From 3:01 AM on 29 March, BKK services will operate according to daylight saving time. Public display boards are expected to be out of service between approximately 2:00 AM and 4:00 AM.

Special measures have been introduced to ensure services reflect passenger demand. Due to increased weekend leisure travel, additional night services running between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM (907A, 909A, 914A, 934, 956, 973A) will follow the departure times normally scheduled between 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM.

It was also noted that services which usually depart between 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM on other days of the year will instead depart from their termini between 1:00 AM and 2:00 AM (winter time), and will encounter the clock change en route.

BKK added that the operation of night services 916 and 968 will not be affected by the clock change. Passengers can find further information about timetable changes on the BKK website.
