All you need to know about the cruising season at Lake Balaton

Well into the cruising season at Lake Balaton and in regards to the rapidly approaching warm weather Bahart, the Lake Balaton Shipping company has announced that there would be several new routes connecting the lakeshore towns not only on weekends but also on weekdays.

This year marks the 176th shipping season at Lake Balaton. The opening ceremony took place at Balatonfüred in April where the Saint Nicholas ship sailed out. And now, a month later Bahart announced the new itineraries of routes in the eastern basin: instead of the usual Siófok – Balatonfüred – Tihany route, direct routes will be launched between Siófok – Balatonfüred, and Siófok – Tihany, thanks to which passengers will be able to reach their destination faster and more conveniently, likeBalaton writes. This means passengers can count on 9 cruises on weekdays and 10 cruises on the weekend between Siófok and the northern shore.

Renovation of the existing fleet is an ongoing project as well. Some current ships under renovation are the Szigliget ship, the Badacsony catamaran, the Szántód ship, and the Tünde nostalgia ship, which is being prepared for its 95th birthday.

They also take environmental upgrades seriously, and with that, they are adding new, more modern ferries and catamarans to the fleet.

Taking a cruise on a beautiful ship on the grand azure “Hungarian sea” is a perfect way to spend a gorgeous summer day. There are discounts available for children and adults as well: if you buy your ticket at Siófok’s port, an adult ticket costs HUF 1800 (~ EUR 4.66) while for children it is only HUF 900 (~ EUR 2.33) instead of the usual HUF 2100 (~ EUR 5.44) and HUF 1050 (~ EUR 2.72) prices, turizmus.com reported.

Do not hesitate to make the most out of your day at Lake Balaton by taking a cruise on one of the beautiful new ships. It will also allow you to attend numerous parties, concerts, and festivals happening all around Balaton this summer.

  1. Cruising is not confined to the Balaton, if you know where to go, but is mainly to city parks late at night. “a perfect way to spend a gorgeous summer (night)” if one is so inclined.
