“Homophobic law” completely divided Hungarian society?

The new Hungarian paedophile law, also labelled as the “homophobic law” due to the modifications added to the original bill, completely divided Hungarians.

Lately, many internal issues and conflicts of Hungary have received international attention and reaction. The “homophobic law” is one of them.

Everything to know about the Hungarian “homophobic law”

Since the question of LGBTQ people’s rights causes problems on an international level, it was natural that the passing of the bill would get some sort of reaction from other countries. Several governments and the European Union itself stood up to discrimination, creating a common standpoint and opinion.

The harsh answer of America to the Hungarian “homophobic law”

In Hungary, however, the reaction of people is not that one-sided, writes index.hu.

“The law completely divides Hungarian society,”

shows the research of Median, the most important independent public survey company in the country. The results were published by hvg360.

The proportion of those accepting or refusing the details of the law is almost equal, 47% against 42%.

Whether someone is for or against the details infringing upon the rights of homosexuals greatly depends on the age and educational background of the person. Those who have finished secondary school and most of those with a university degree tend to refuse the law as such.

Under the age of 30, the proportion of those against it is higher than in any other age group.

The point of view of those supporting the government and those belonging to the opposition perfectly reflect the side they are on. Two-thirds of the former support the law, while two-thirds of the people not agreeing with the current government do not agree with the “homophobic” modifications of the law either.

Participants of the survey were also asked about their opinion on the EU membership and how they would vote in the case of a referendum deciding whether to stay or leave the community. In this case, the answer was more unilateral. Two-thirds would absolutely participate in the referendum, and 80% of them would vote to remain part of the European Union.

When it comes to

Hungarian membership in the EU in general, 83% of people asked are in favour, while 11% are against it.

79% of the government’s supporters see membership as a positive thing, as opposed to 17% who would rather be independent.

On the side of the opposition, the viewpoint is much more unilateral. 90% is in favour as opposed to 7% who would rather leave.

The EU membership overall causes much less division than the contents of the new law, and its perception is quite independent of people’s political views.

Four-fifths of Fidesz voters also stand for EU membership.

  1. strange how a few people can cause so much talk about something so irrelevant ,
like sexual preference ,which should be kept private .
but the real horror , of abortion ,,and muslim rape gangs in uk ,is not talked about ,
millions are affected.. but nothing to say ,,
civil rights of unborn children ,or young white girls
seem not to be important ,

  2. Looks like sanity still has a foothold in the motherland. The PM hasn’t quite been able to turn the nation into Viktorland yet.

  3. Taking away a parental rights so the state can teach children whatever it wants is not freedom.

Anyone who thinks the state should teach such things against the will of parents does not understand that this is what Hitler, Stalin and Mao did to the children under their rule……teach them what the government believes is true and parents are forced to comply regardless if they agree.

  4. Denisf, your comments are so much out of place and reality. If you wish to enroll in the infamous KKK, you should consider moving to the U.S.A. That must be the right country for white supremacists like you.
    Europe does not suit you.

  5. The fact that this article uses the term homophobic law actually perpetuates the up-rise & misunderstanding of its content and should be ashamed of itself, of the author. Just because America or others have decided that name calling is the way to bully a country does not mean that within its own borders others should jump on that nasty bandwagon.
A law to protect children in any and everyway, a law to enshrine the rights of parents over that of random others should be applauded in this time of ‘anything goes’. Children are the future, they must have protection and nurturing and be surrounded by protective loving family to withstand the brainwashing of outsiders which include teachers who overstep their role. They are simply paid to teach skills which ensure later commercial success in life thru employment, not to break the family bond and family identity.
A law which ensures that identity of adults continues to protect the identities of biology, of God’s creation of man and woman of distinct beings will protect women’s rights in all areas of their lives. Women have had to fight for at least 3 generations to have their special status in the family as mothers, their status in society as the ones who will ensure that the society continues on thru childbirth valued as being vital. In other regards women have fought to have their natural abilities and educational efforts valued as equal in economical contribution to men while still being a distinct group. The rights of women to compete, to succeed, to attain financial autonomy has been a long and difficult fight that should never have been denied had men been more secure in their own abilities.
Once definitive genders of male and female are erased and lines blurred it will be women who will lose out. Already women’s sport is being contaminated by men posing as women because everyone knows that men’s body’s carry more muscle mass, are more streamlined, tend to have longer body parts in general, and all thru life receive better health care since almost all research is done on groups of me for their benefit 1st, and most funding for sport is destined to go to men.
Women of all ages are already always at risk of violence from boys/men. When men are given permission to invade spaces where women need specific privacy their sense of self, their comfort levels will be devalued and compromised. Is it just an urban ledgend that men posing as women have taken advantage of being given access to female spaces have raped the women that they were given access to? I think not. Why would a society allow women to be put at risk that way? or to have to compete on an unlevel playing field?
The law in question does not try to tell adults how they should feel about themselves or how they should present themselves in general in their own social circles. When people look or behave oddly and cause discomfort to those around them they will be accepted or shunned regardless of the reason for their choices. The law only tells people that some segments of the population will be protected at all costs, children, parental values/beliefs and that mothers will always be distinct from fathers.
Let other countries go their own way and in several generations feel the shame of their horrendous damage to their societies, just like the Germans still carry the burdens of having allowed the Nazi mentality to destroy so much of the population of their and neighboring lands. It all starts with brainwashing of unprovable thoughts and the loudmouths of people with too much time on their hands who want to be noticed and belong to something that is AGAINST their families, neighbours & general society. Such people always have loud voices, ban together while others go about their business of life and they absorb those who are too weak minded to think for themselves or are uneducated in the understanding of how one major change causes a domino effect and causes many unexpected results.

  7. No, the law has not divided society but we must give the media credit for trying to light the fire of hatred against those who have alternative lifestyles. The law is not about trying to punish homosexuals It is all about trying to keep their sexual preferences from being forced upon our children. We do not want drag queen story hour at our schools and we do not want the perverse sexual acts being taught to children. They grow up fast enough. There is no reason to speed their education into adult subjects

  8. denisf, time to take your anti-hallucinogens. There, there, everything will be OK. Next you will be convinced you are Napoleon.

  9. Muslim rape gangs in UK? Racist nonsense. Rape is always a grave crime, but Moslems actually underrepresented in official UK statistics for rape/sexual offences. Keep you Islamaphobia to yourself, denisf. You are an ignorant racist bigot.

  10. Before commenting on a split of the country due to Children’s Protection law, wait to see the result of the referendum. The statistics cited in the article are probably false. Before publishing statistical data, define perimeters, questions, number polled, ages and sex of the people. This statistical data belongs in a waste paper basket not in a news paper.

  11. And if the statistics had gone in favour of your way of thinking, would you be saying the same thing? Thought not.
