Hungary population decline slows in January-April
Budapest, June 24 (MTI) – Hungary’s population decline slowed in January-April 2016 as the number of births decreased by 0.5 percent and the number of deaths decreased by 14 percent compared with the same period last year, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Friday.
The figures show that there were 29,221 births in the first four months of the year. According to leap day-adjusted data, the number of births for the period was down by 1.3 percent compared with 2015.
The number of deaths was 42,946, down by 6,916, or 15 percent according to leap day-adjusted data, KSH said.
The rise in births and the drop in the death rate means that the rate of natural population decline was down by 33 percent compared with the same period in 2015.
The number of marriages went up by an annual 30 percent to 10,125.
