The film was selected by a nine-member committee that included Andrew G. Vajna, the one-time Hollywood producer who is government commissioner for the country’s film industry, and industry professionals, said the Fund.
Mundruczo’s sixth film won the main award in the Cannes international film festival’s Un Certain Regard section this spring.
Described by the director as a sentimental adventure film, White God tells the story of 13-year-old Lili and her dog. It has earned success at international film festivals particularly for the scenes made with the inclusion of 200 well-trained dogs.
The shortlist of titles for the Academy Awards will be announced on January 15 and the Oscars ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on February 22.
