Hungary’s Tourism Figures Show Record Year In 2013
Budapest, February 21 (MTI) – Tourism in Hungary and particularly in Budapest ended a record year in 2013, a state secretary at the economy ministry told a conference today.
It is part of Hungary’s economic policy goals to draw more Hungarian companies into tourism, Kristof Szatmary said. Programmes targeting domestic tourism helped growth in tourism, as well as a rise in the number of visitors to Budapest last year, he said.
Budapest made up 60 percent of guest nights spent in Hungary last year while only 15 percent of accommodation is located here. Budapest accounted for 70 billion forints (EUR 225m) of revenue for accommodation last year, or 70 percent of all spending by foreign guests. Fully 3.3 million guests stayed in Budapest accommodation last year, up 7 percent on the previous year, the state secretary said.
An index of profitability rose by 4 percent for Budapest accommodation last year, compared to 1 percent growth in the same index for Prague and a decline for Vienna, he added.
