More than four hundred illegal migrants apprehended over the weekend

On Monday, the National Police Headquarter informed Hungarian news agency MTI that between Friday and Sunday 442 people crossing the border illegally were apprehended in Hungary, proceedings for people smuggling were launched in four cases.

According to the statistics published on the Police’s website, on Friday 201, on Saturday 84 and on Sunday 157 were apprehended.

During the first weeks of the year, the number of migrants crossing Hungary’s borders illegally averaged around ten, in February, March and April however, there were a number of days on which over 200 people were apprehended: the tendency peaked on Easter Monday with 255 cases. Between Monday and Sunday, Police apprehended 907 people for illegal border crossing; one week earlier – 6 – 12 June – the number of cases amounted to 853.

According to information on criminal offences related to migration from the Prosecutor’s Office and the Court the composition of migrants in terms of citizenship is very diverse: there are many, who claim themselves to be Afghani, Syrian or Pakistani citizens, or nationals of one of the North African countries, but migrants also arrive from more distant places like Haiti or Sri Lanka.

  1. Send them back to Greece or Turkey where they are supposed to be processed first. If not, get them on a train or plane to Belgium. The E.U. headquarters can figure out what to do with them.

  2. What really baffles me is, all the migrants, including those illegal ones who break through the fence, who do not get accepted as refugees, what happens to them??? Are they sent back from whence they came, or are they kept in Hungary? Will someone please answere my question. Also, who pays for their keep?- the tax payer?
