Water is so dangerous in this Hungarian town that drinking it is banned

The Budapest Metropolitan Government Office has ordered an immediate ban on drinking water consumption in Ráckeve, Pest County, to protect residents after authorities detected arsenic levels exceeding the acceptable threshold in the local water supply.
The government office stated on Thursday that the local water provider, Dabas és Környéke Vízügyi Ltd. (DAKÖV), has been instructed to immediately identify the cause of the water quality issue and take the necessary measures to eliminate it. The company must also continuously inform the government office about the steps taken to resolve the problem.
Additionally, the service provider is required to supply residents with drinking water that is safe for both drinking and cooking. It must also clearly communicate to the public how and when they can access potable water.
The government office is investigating whether the service provider bears responsibility and is monitoring compliance. If obligations are not met, a fine of up to HUF 5 million may be imposed. The ban will remain in place until measurements by both the service provider and authorities confirm that the water quality has reliably and consistently returned to safe levels.
