Decreasing market prices at Hungarian petrol stations from 5 August

Market prices at petrol stations are showing signs of moderation. From Friday, 5 August, the market price of fuel will fall again, affecting an increasing number of drivers in Hungary, according to data from Holtankoljak.hu.

For petrol, this means a reduction of 8 forints per litre, and for diesel, the reduction is 9 forints gross. This affects market prices, while the official price for the general public remains unchanged at HUF 480 (EUR 1.21). The average market prices at the pumps from Friday are as follows:

  • 95 petrol: 691,9 Ft/litre (EUR 1.75);
  • Diesel: 737,9 Ft/litre (EUR 1.86);

Brent oil prices were slightly below $100 on Wednesday morning, napi.hu reports.

Who is eligible for the capped price?

As we reported last week, starting from Saturday noon, 30 July, only privately-owned cars, taxis and farm machinery, tractors can purchase fuel for the official, capped price (480 HUF per litre). Whether a vehicle is eligible for the capped fuel price are determined based on the barcode on its registration licence.
