Digital citizenship scheme to start next summer in Hungary

A scheme dubbed Digital citizenship will be launched between July and September next year which will enable personal identification and access to state services over mobile technology, the head of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office said on Thursday.

Antal Rogán told a conference organised by the Supervisory Authority for Regulatory Affairs and Mathias Corvinus Collegium that the move will follow the current trend of people using their mobile phones to manage tasks.

Being a digital citizen will enable people to show identification data with the help of a mobile phone instead of an ID card, he said. Additionally, they will be able to make all payments to the state with the press of a button, with the help of a centralised mobile app, he added.

The number of users is expected to come close to 1 million next year and grow to 3-5 million by 2025, he said.

  1. Let’s hope our Politicians also authorize budget for a foreign language version of this as well. Help out all those foreigners we are attracting with our grants and incentives, Christian and family values, lack of qualified staff, etc.
