Discover Hajdúszoboszló, the Hungarian spa capital — PHOTOS, VIDEOS
People were looking for oil and gas but found thermal water at seventy-five degrees Celsius. This is the short history of Hajdúszoboszló. At first, the locals did not realise the benefits of the water, but later, local women recognised that the water had a positive effect on their health.
The discovery of thermal water
In the autumn of 1925, Ferenc Vajna Pávai and his team found seventy-five-degree thermal water in Hajdúszoboszló. The original aim was to find oil and natural gas. At first, they did not know how valuable this thermal water was, so they injected it into a nearby stream.
Local women noticed that after washing, their joint problems subsided.
The first spa opened in the summer of 1927. In the 95 years since, many hotels and spas have followed the first complex. Hajdúszoboszló is naturally popular at all times of the year and is visited by both domestic and foreign tourists.
The benefits of Hajdúszoboszló water
What has made the thermal water of Hajdúszoboszló so popular? The golden-brown water, which comes from a depth of 1,100 metres, contains a number of trace elements.
It also contains iodine, bromine, table salt, and bitumen.
The dissolved mineral content of the water is high, which makes it suitable for a wide range of ailments, writes sokszinuvidek.hu. The medicinal water of Hajdúszoboszló can treat certain types of vascular stenosis, chronic gynaecological and dermatological diseases, arthritis, as well as many spinal disorders. The water is also good for treating pain and inflammation affecting the nerves.
The golden-brown water can also play a role in preventing atherosclerosis.
How does it heal?
Many researchers believe that the substances and trace elements are absorbed through the skin and then absorbed into the bloodstream to help with healing. Others believe that physical contact with the water is an important factor.
The temperature of the water and the pressure help those in the pool to heal.
In a pool, the buoyant force of the water means that the pressure on each limb is much lower. The iodine and sulphur that evaporate from the water also contribute to beneficial effects, such as relieving asthma and allergy symptoms.
In many cases, a drinking cure is also beneficial, which can be introduced through bottled water available at local springs or in many shops around the country. The city is trying to attract tourists not only with water but also with other attractions. The Easter park of Hajdúszoboszló was decorated with nearly 2,000 decorations thanks to a community effort, according to csodálatosmagyarország.hu.
