People were looking for oil and gas but found thermal water at seventy-five degrees Celsius. This is the short history of Hajdúszoboszló. At first, the locals did not realise the benefits of the water, but later, local women recognised that the water had a positive effect on their health.
The discovery of thermal water
In the autumn of 1925, Ferenc Vajna Pávai and his team found seventy-five-degree thermal water in Hajdúszoboszló. The original aim was to find oil and natural gas. At first, they did not know how valuable this thermal water was, so they injected it into a nearby stream.
Local women noticed that after washing, their joint problems subsided.
The first spa opened in the summer of 1927. In the 95 years since, many hotels and spas have followed the first complex. Hajdúszoboszló is naturally popular at all times of the year and is visited by both domestic and foreign tourists.
