DK: The Tisza Party is running a campaign against us using fake profiles

Change language:

Olga Kálmán, a representative of the Democratic Coalition (DK), spoke about a large-scale social media campaign using fake profiles that is targeting the party’s candidates. According to the DK, the Tisza Party may be behind the campaign.

The politician stated in a recent Facebook video that hundreds of fake profiles are demanding that DK candidates withdraw, including several from Vietnam and Bangladesh.

Kálmán links this campaign to the Tisza Party’s circle, as she believes it is specifically aimed at getting DK candidates to withdraw in favor of Tisza.

“Since the flood of fake profiles that has been going on for weeks is specifically aimed at getting DK candidates to withdraw in favor of Tisza, it’s not hard to guess that Tisza might be behind this campaign. First, they attacked our candidates with legal measures and baseless template complaints, all of which were rejected by the election committees and the courts in every single case,” — the representative stated.

It is particularly worth paying attention to Olga Kálmán’s own district, where Balázs Tóth-Major, a Tisza supporter, is also running. According to DK, the candidate may be involved in a campaign carried out using fake foreign profiles.

The representative also detailed the sequence of attacks: first came baseless accusations, followed by threats and blackmail, and finally, fake profiles appeared under the posts of DK politicians.

If you missed it: Will Hungary’s former largest opposition party, the Democratic Coalition, disintegrate in weeks?

“Then came the threats and blackmail, followed by the fake Facebook profiles appearing under our candidates’ posts. Most of the fake profiles have fewer than 10 friends and either have no profile picture or an AI-generated one. We also found fake profiles among them that supposedly belong to people from Bangladesh and Vietnam, but in reality, they demand the withdrawal of DK candidates under DK posts in flawless Hungarian,” Kálmán emphasized.

The party emphasizes: methods previously characteristic of other political forces are now being employed by the Tisza Party as well. According to the DK’s statement, they have identified 420 fake profiles that regularly comment under their candidates’ posts. In their view, the aim of the campaign is to put pressure on the candidates and to sow doubt among supporters and voters.

The Democratic Coalition has called on the Tisza Party to fight Fidesz if they are truly their opponent, and to stop attacking the DK.

As we wrote today, Péter Magyar sent message to Austria about stricter border control, family allowances, and Vienna visit.
