Domestic tourism collapses, international visitors save the industry in Hungary
Hungarian demand fell by almost ten percent in July. Guest nights at commercial and private tourism accommodations in Hungary slipped by 1.0 percent to 6,440,000 in July from the same period a year earlier on a decline in bookings by domestic travellers, data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) on Monday show.
The number of guest nights spent by domestic travellers fell by 8.4 percent to 3,879,000, but guest nights spent by foreign visitors climbed by 12.7 percent to 2,561,000.
Germans spent 412,000 guest nights at tourism accommodations in Hungary in July, more than any other nationality. Polish visitors spent 272,000 guest nights and visitors from Czechia 237,000 guest nights, according to the KSH.
