The first E-ID cards issued from today on

According to metropol.hu, the first electronic multi-purpose identity cards arrive on January 1, which can be used for electronic signatures as well – Central Office of Administrative and Electronic Public Services (KEKKH) said.

The office said that the new card will also perform the tasks of the social security card and the tax card. Due to the high-security storage unit you can arrange your activities with the help of a more modern and more safe document from now on.

The introduction of the card format ID was a revolutionary innovation on January 1, 2000. However, the innovation became necessary by the evolution of technology.

The transition to the new ID cards will be gradual, the citizens applying for new ID card will get the new one.

The card also stores, in addition to the data content of the current ID card, the fingerprints (based on the decision of the citizen), the date necessary to create an electronic signature, and the social security and tax numbers, as well.

It is important that only one function can be used at the same time, preventing to use more information for non-authorized users. It is not possible to fully access the data stored on the card, metropol.hu wrote.
