Tragic crash in Hungary: Elderly woman killed by man recklessly driving luxury car – video

A fatal traffic accident shook the centre of Győr on Saturday morning when a luxury Aston Martin struck a 76-year-old woman near the City Hall on Szent István Street.

High-speed collision in busy city area

According to Kisalföld, the green Aston Martin, driven at high speed, veered into the opposite lane on the two-by-two lane road before mounting the pavement. The car demolished a bus stop, fatally hitting the elderly woman waiting there. The impact also destroyed the bus stop bench and damaged the wall of a building behind it.

Video footage and eyewitness accounts suggest that the Aston Martin may have been travelling at excessive speed. The car was completely wrecked in the collision.

Passengers injured

The vehicle’s passenger was also injured and was taken to hospital by ambulance. Another bystander, a 30-year-old man, sustained a head injury, while a 20-year-old woman was admitted for observation, according to local news outlets.

Driver detained by police

The 33-year-old driver was detained and questioned by the Győr Police Department on suspicion of causing a fatal road accident. The authorities have submitted a proposal for his pre-trial detention. Police reports confirmed that the incident occurred at 8:45 AM on 14 February.

Online forums and social media posts noted that the driver was already known locally for his reckless driving style.

  1. It’s worth emphasising that this ‘accident’ happened in a 50 kph zone within the city limits. It should be impossible to lose control of a car at such a slow speed, especially one with the levels of grip and braking performance of an Aston Martin. The only conclusion therefore is that the driver was engaging in dangerous driving and has taken the life of an innocent bystander with his antics.

This surely deserves a decade in prison and a further 10 years after release banned from driving.
