EP elections – Jobbik: Hungary’s future in EU at stake

Next month’s European parliamentary elections will have an unprecedented stake because Hungary has never before been exposed to the danger of its government and prime minister driving it out of the European Union, the top MEP candidate of conservative opposition Jobbik said on Friday.

“The question is whether we allow the ruling parties to steer Hungary out of the community of European countries and build a feudal dictatorship based on ‘wage slavery’,” Márton Gyöngyösi, group leader of Jobbik, told a press conference in Miskolc.

Hungary has become totally isolated within the European Union. As its ruling parties have lost all their allies, they are no longer able to represent the country’s national interests, he said.

“It is not enough to only talk about fighting migration,” he said, urging concrete measures by the government.

Gyöngyösi said the government had “illegally settled 86,000 migrants in Hungary over the past three years, with some of whom posing a national security risk”.

He said Jobbik supports the fence erected along Hungary’s southern border, but called for reinstalling the border guard.
