Ethnic Russians in Hungary plan to apply for minority status
The Coordination Council of Russian Compatriots plan to apply for minority status for ethnic Russians living in Hungary.
“We will submit an application to the Hungarian government soon,” announced Tatiana Kern the President of the Russian Compatriots Coordination Council.
For Russians to be recognized as an ethnic minority is important because the minority status can help the preservation and dissemination of Russian language and culture said Kern adding that they’ve already started the legal proceedings.
According to the current law, 12 nationalities and ethnic minorities are recognized by the law.
Although a significant number of other national minorities also live in the country, but they haven’t yet met the criteria for obtaining minority status, among them Russians, Arabs, Chinese, and Bunjevci.

I do not understand!!! If you live in Hungary why on earth this move?
In Australia we have many other nationals, they preserve the language and culture without any problem and definitely no “legal” proceedings necessary.
BUT!!! They ARE ALL Australian in the first place!
Does not apply to Hungary??? These other nationalities do not become Hungarian citizens??? Or the fact is that the Government will pay for special schools and what ever? Do other countries are so accommodating in Europe towards the expats Hungarian?
I am really curious.
