EURO2020: The Czech Rep defeats the Netherlands in Puskás Aréna, Budapest
The national eleven of the Czech Republic defeated its Dutch opponent in a EURO 2020 round of 16 match played in Budapest’s Puskás Aréna on Sunday evening and qualified for the quarterfinal.
Result:
Czech Republic – Netherlands 2:0 (0:0)
According to the poll on UEFA’s website, most people thought that the Netherlands is going to win the round, but the Czech Republic’s national football team took the top scorers by surprise and have managed to win the match with two goals in the second half.
According to UEFA, “Netherlands were the top scorers in the group stage, netting three times in their victories against Ukraine and North Macedonia with a 2-0 win over Austria sandwiched in between. Those impressive performances all came in Amsterdam” and it seems that the Hungarian stadium was not particularly good for them.

Does UEFA have double standards? – Hungary is on watchlist; other cases neglected
It is not unheard of though, as in 2016, the Czech team have prevented the Dutch from qualifying for the EURO2016 Championships, UEFA writes.
Jaroslav Šilhavý, coach of the Czech Republic team said to UEFA: “I am really proud of my team. We have defeated a great opponent –all of my players were tactically excellent. I am glad we achieved it in front of so many of our fans.”
