Europeans, Chinese, Turkish, Egyptians race to build power plants in Hungary

A tender called in March to build power plants with a combined capacity up to 1,650MW in the east of Hungary has attracted interested parties from Egypt, Greece, China and Turkiye, in addition to Western European companies, the energy ministry said on Thursday.

Six applicants have been cleared to participate in the tender to build two combined cycle gas turbine blocks with capacity up to 500 MW apiece at the MVM Tisza Power Plant in Tiszaújváros and six have been approved to bid for the construction of a single CCGT block with capacity up to 650 MW at the Mátra Power Plant in Visonta, the ministry said.

Construction of the plants is expected to take three to three-and-a-half years after the public procurement procedure is closed successfully.
