World-famous influencers take over Budapest to promote Hungary globally

For the third time, world-renowned influencers with massive followings on Instagram and TikTok have arrived in Budapest to showcase the city and Hungary to audiences across the globe. The campaign, running from 6–9 May, brought together around 50 content creators from nine countries, whose combined reach exceeds 200 million followers.

Over three days, the influencers visited 22 destinations across the country, with the support of 30 local service providers. In addition to Budapest’s most iconic locations, they also highlighted rural gems such as the Tokaj wine region and Herend Porcelain, introducing viewers worldwide to the rich diversity of Hungary’s culture, gastronomy, and natural beauty, Index wrote.

The event places a strong focus on Hungary’s key tourism markets, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Poland, Czechia, and Romania. Participants included popular vloggers, bloggers, actors, and travel personalities, many of whom documented their experiences during a road trip through the country.

This influencer campaign is part of Visit Hungary’s strategy to increase the country’s international visibility—especially ahead of the summer travel season. According to the organisation’s CEO, Olivér Csendes, younger generations are increasingly turning to social media for travel inspiration. “With this innovative marketing approach, we can effectively shape travel decisions of younger audiences, who rely more on personal stories and visuals than traditional advertisements,” he noted.

Past influencer events have proven highly effective: the 2023 spring campaign resulted in over 2,000 pieces of content, reaching more than 340 million people.

In countries where influencers had strong followings, Hungary saw a 64% increase in overnight bookings within three weeks of the campaign.

A similar campaign last autumn, focusing on the Chinese market, brought 19 major influencers to Hungary. Their content reached 50 million targeted users and generated over 100 million views, contributing to a more than twofold increase in Chinese visitors to Budapest by January 2025.
