The left-wing majority bloc in the European Parliament “has ignored the will of millions of EU voters” by overlooking the candidacy of the Patriots for Europe EP group for a post overseeing administrative and financial matters that directly affect MEPs, known as a Questor, the head of the Fidesz delegation in the EP said on Wednesday.
Tamás Deutsch told a joint press conference held in Strasbourg with Fidesz-Christian Democrat MEP Pal Szekeres, the Patriots for Europe nominee, that the left-wing bloc “feels it has the power to overrule the decision of European voters and abuse its mandates from voters, using its EP position to rewrite the will of European voters expressed at the EP election”.
Today’s vote on Questors and yesterday’s vote on vice-presidents in which neither of the two candidates of the Patriots for Europe group received enough supporting votes “will only serve to boost the combative spirit of the group and the Fidesz-Christian Democrats delegation”, he said.
He said the Patriots for Europe is the third largest group in the EP, so its delegates should have been given the positions.
Deutsch elected Fidesz-KDNP EP delegation leader before
The Fidesz-Christian Democrats group in the European Parliament held a meeting for the re-election of officials on Tuesday and Tamas Deutsch was re-elected head of the delegation and Kinga Gal its chairperson, the group said in a statement. The appointments are in force for the next two and a half years of the EP term.
Deutsch was the Fidesz-KDNP list leader in the 2024 EP election and has been the head of the Fidesz EP delegation since July 2019. Gal is the first vice-president of the Patriots for Europe EP group and after her appointment to Fidesz deputy leader in 2021, she was re-elected in 2023.

Bravo Ursula! She was elected to another five year mandate. Make Orban’s life difficult until he ejected from office in 2026!
Ursula von der Leyen got more votes now for her second mandate than she got the first time in 2019. The right-wing jack-asses got smacked down in the EP and it is now time for the Fidesz idiots to shut up and behave themselves but of course they are incapable of that.
“Patriots for Europe is the third largest group in the EP, so its delegates should have been given the positions.”
Why should third largest group get these positions if the majority does not want to give these positions to them?
Its called democracy – the majority makes the decision, not the minority. Fidesz politicians should know this as they decide whatever they want in Hungary with their majority. Now they complain about something that happens daily in Hungary where Fidesz makes decisions without caring one bit about minorities opinions.
Yes, a few million voted for these useful idiots. But 100s of millions voted against them.
5 years of misery has not taught the people anything.
