Flight from Cairo to Washington lands in Budapest

A passenger became ill on a plane early on Tuesday morning, causing the flight to the United States to be diverted and land in Budapest. The passenger was taken to hospital.

EgyptAir flight MS981 from Cairo to Washington landed in Budapest on Tuesday, Index reports. A passenger on the plane reported on Reddit that the flight had unexpectedly aborted its journey and landed in the Hungarian capital. The person tried to find out from the online community what could have happened, as passengers were not informed of the reason for the landing.

When contacted by Index, Budapest Airport said that the flight was interrupted due to a passenger falling ill.

“The staff of the Airport Medical Service at Liszt Ferenc International Airport immediately started the examination of the passenger after the arrival of the plane at 3:04 AM, and the person was taken to hospital in stable condition,” the airport wrote.

They added that “the flight resumed at 05:01 AM”, and that the incident did not cause any disruption to traffic at the international airgate.
