Holiday trick: Flying from Hungary? Choose this airport!
We have great news for you if you’re flying from Hungary this summer. Since the end of March, you can fly not only from Budapest to Malta, one of the most fascinating islands in the Mediterranean, but also from Pécs, which is dubbed the Hungarian Mediterranean capital. Prices are much better than from the capital, and we won’t be less comfortable either.
Flying from Hungary: choose Pécs!
Universal Air recently announced that from 26 March 2024, it is operating two flights a week between Malta, Pécs and Munich, Pénzcentrum writes. They promise to combine the cost efficiency of low-cost airlines with the premium services of traditional airlines. Their fleet consists of 78-seat Dash 8-400 aircraft, which are renowned for their fuel efficiency, comfort and speed, the airline said in a statement.
The flight will operate on Tuesdays and Fridays until 22 October, with a third weekly service from 2 June.
Cheaper to fly from Pécs than from Budapest Airport
Prices between Malta and Pécs start from EUR 79 one way, EUR 158 round trip, and between Pécs and Munich from EUR 49 one way, EUR 98 round trip. This price includes a checked suitcase of up to 15 kg and one piece of hand luggage of 7 kg.
This is much cheaper than flying from Budapest.
Pénzcentrum searched for the cheapest July ticket to Valletta with the help of Skyscanner: Wizz Air will take passengers to and from the Maltan capital for HUF 50,580 (EUR 129.13) without baggage, and the cheapest return fare with a 20 kg bag is HUF 109,914 (EUR 280.61) per person, with a week in between. Of course, due to dynamic pricing, this can change constantly.
Thus, it is HUF 47,000 (EUR 120) cheaper if you fly from Pécs. Even if you subtract the HUF 6,000 (EUR 15.32) train tickets, you can still save HUF 41,000 (EUR 104.68).
Happy flying from Hungary!
