FM Szijjarto: Rights of Hungarian community on agenda of end-Feb meeting with Romania’s foreign minister
Budapest (MTI) – Enforcing the rights of the Hungarian community in Romania will certainly be among topics discussed at a meeting with the Romanian foreign minister pencilled in for the end of February, Hungary’s foreign minister said on Tuesday.
Speaking to public television Duna TV, Peter Szijjarto reacted to a statement by the Romanian foreign ministry to the effect that the principle of reciprocity does not apply when it comes to assessing the situation of the Romanian Hungarian community and Hungary’s Romanian minority.
He said that there were preconditions attached to the meeting, which would possibly take place at the end of February, but these had not been fulfilled in their entirety.
Enforcement of the rights of the Hungarian community “will obviously be an unavoidable topic of negotiations,” he said.
