Nitrogénművek, Hungary’s sole producer of artificial fertiliser, on Wednesday said it is suspending the energy-intensive production of ammonia due to high energy prices.
The company said gas prices had more than doubled and the security of European energy supply was at risk in light of the war in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the company added that
government controls on grain exports may impact the agricultural market “in unforeseeable ways” and “further increase risks”.
“Nitrogénművek is monitoring the situation and will do everything it can to restart production and reduce the region’s import dependency on artificial fertiliser,” it added.
