Hungary surpasses gas storage target, reaches 90% capacity ahead of EU deadline
Gas volume in Hungary’s storage facilities is above the target level of 90 percent, the energy ministry said on Friday.
The 6 billion cubic metres of gas currently stored in Hungary’s facilities is twice the total amount Hungarian households used last year, it added.
According to European Union targets, Hungary was required to fill its reserves to 90 percent of capacity by November 1, a threshold the country reached by early autumn, the ministry said.
Hungary has also managed to cut gas consumption by one-fifth in two consecutive years, compared with the average of the previous five years. Annual consumption is expected to remain below 8 billion cubic metres in 2024, the ministry said.
