Get ready! Here are the traffic restrictions and closures in Budapest this summer
In addition to drivers, public transport users can also expect a number of traffic restrictions in the Hungarian capital this summer.
Buda Lower Quay
By the time the school holidays begin, the period of renovations and closures has already started in Budapest. Accordingly, from 20 June to mid-August, the lower quay of Buda will be closed to vehicles. In addition, using public transport will also be complicated in the area. Due to the ongoing reconstruction of the Chain Bridge, the Buda Lower Embankment between Döbrentei Square and Halász Street cannot be used until mid-August. However, vehicles will be able to use the lower quay of Pest every day of the week.
Arriving from Óbuda, drivers cannot go further than Halász Street. From the south, they can drive only until Döbrentei Square. The Centre for Budapest Transport (BKK) would like to notify drivers arriving from Óbuda that due to the limited capacity of the Halász Street driveway, it will not be possible at the Margaret Bridge to get off in the southbound direction to the lower quay. Freight traffic should use the Árpád Bridge-Hungaria Ring-Rákóczi Bridge route – written by the Hungarian news portal Metropol.
Public transport
On 18 June, metro line 3 services changed again. Until mid-August, metro services will only run between Újpest-központ and Göncz Árpád City Centre, while between Göncz Árpád City Centre and Kőbánya-Kispest you can take the M3 replacement bus. Additionally, trams 2 and 2M will not run between Közvágóhíd and Kossuth Lajos Square until the end of July due to renovation work. Replacement buses will be in operation in this section, for which a bus lane has been created to speed up traffic.
FINA World Championships in Budapest
Until midnight on 3 July, a parking ban will be in effect on Margaret Island due to the FINA World Championships. Thus, until the beginning of next month, it will not be possible to approach the large car park from the Árpád Bridge. The restriction will affect visitors to the Margaret Island Theatre. Therefore, it is recommended that guests take the theatre boat service or bus number 26. In addition, traffic restrictions are expected in several parts of the capital due to the FINA 2022 World Aquatics Championships, respectively in the 2nd, 5th, 9th and 13th districts – reported by the Hungarian news portal Liner.
