Giga project: Launch of mini Dubai starts in Budapest

Change language:

As we reported last month, the Orbán cabinet is planning to carry out an 800-million-euro infrastructure development project in Budapest’s downtown: the so-called mini Dubai project. The plans involve even the erection of a skyscraper not far from the Heroes’ Square. Now, the preparation of the Rákosrendező site has begun, with legal notices sent to tenants and untitled land users.

Mini Dubai project in its newest phase

Based on the order of the Ministry of Construction and Transport (ÉKM), MÁV Plc. has initiated the termination of leases and other rights of use. It called on the users of the properties left behind or erected without permission to hand over the land, the Ministry said in a statement sent to the Hungarian News Agency (MTI), mfor.hu reports.

The next step in the preparation of the project will be the removal of about 175,000 tonnes of construction debris from the demolition of the burnt-down Budapest Sports Hall (Budapest Sportcsarnok, BS), the sale of railway materials owned by the state, and the recultivation and remediation of the area, the Ministry said.

The aim of the ÉKM is to complete the clearance of the site by the end of the summer and start the next phase of property development.

  1. This criminal government starts another insane project after building useless football stadiums. The “invest” EUR 770 million Hungarian taxpayer’s money, while the medical system is collapsing, the transport system is in a very bad state and many (older) Hungarians live in deep poverty.

The Orbán clan will make a lot of money with their new project. You can imagine!

The sooner these criminals are gone, the better.

  2. I thought the gathering at the square was sheep upset over the photoshopped photo of massive skyscrapers blocking the sun over Heros Square- I’m surprised the statues haven’t been pulled down by the crowd.

  3. This is a much distorted view, it would not look like this at all, also the area is like 3km away. In China this would be built already. Without any local gvnmt involvment

  4. The best thing that could ever have happened to Hungary! Orban and his government have foresight! Maxi-Dubai will be a great addition to the cityscape, just like the renovation of the castle district, and will be a valuable infrastructure for the great benefit of Hungary and Hungarians. Congratulations Mr Orban, the best leader in Europe!
