Government plans to build 4-5 new international airports in Hungary!

Besides international ones, business airports are also in the plans. One of the cities where an airport for business partners will be built could be Nyíregyháza.

The government wants to build 4 or 5 international airports in rural areas, but many business airports can also be found in the airport development strategy, presented by Levente Magyar, State Secretary of Foreign Affairs, at a conference in Budapest, writes 444.hu.

Investment in 2020 was skyrocketing. 1,435 investments got government support, and that helped keep 265,000 jobs. These companies implemented investments worth 1,683 billion forints, with 474 billion forints worth of support.

According to Levente Magyar, thanks to the 5-8 -year-long development plan, Hungary will have 4 or 5 serious airports instead of just one. Runways suitable for business traffic will be created in dozens of places, and units suitable for receiving cargo transport aircraft will be developed. This will elevate air transport to new dimensions.

Currently, if one tries to book flights to Hungary, 7 airports are the most likely to show up to choose from: Budapest Airport, Debrecen Airport, Szeged Airport, Győr Per Airport in Per, Miskolc Airport, Sarmellek Balaton Airport in Hévíz, Balaton, and Pécs Pogány Airport in Pécs.

Skytrax: Budapest Airport chosen the best Eastern European Airport

This number seems very small in comparison with Wikipedia pages, according to which Budapest has 5 airports, and the category labelled as  “Hungary’s airports” counts 47 airports. In reality, however, these are military airports, non-public and public airports, which means that there are many airports that do not serve tourists and businesspeople.

At the conference, Magyar talked about other future developments.

A decade ago, Hungary had three freeways that reached the borders, while now, there are seven of these. In the future, another seven freeways will be constructed. M30, a freeway connecting Budapest with Miskolc and Kassa (Slovakia), will be finished soon. Branches are going to be added to the freeway at Záhony and on M3 on the way to Beregszász, writes 24.hu

Magyar brought up the railway between Budapest and Belgrade (Serbia), which is meant to be a way to transport Eastern goods to Western Europe through Hungary, which originally arrive at Greek ports. V4 fast railways were also mentioned, but this project is only in the planning phase.

  1. Completely useless and worthless idea to construct new airports in rural areas. Who will fly there?! Nobody hasn’t even count or think regarding the numbers. ROI for that kind of projects is beyond all doubt negative, it will be simply a burden on the State’s budget.

The separate issue is, of course, railway Budapest – Beograd. Another one worthless project.

  2. I am surprised they don’t want to build an international air shipping hub at the old Taszar Airbase. Actually that would be a great idea. It would make a great air shipping hub for someone like GLS, FedEx, UPS or DHL. It would greatly help the Kaposvar area.

  3. Surely Felcsűt, as everyone knows one of the world’s largest and most dynamic cities is going to get its international airport. Probably with 10 or even 20 terminals, one for each passenger flying in and out every second month.
And surely it is going to be the 5XL autocrat’s best friend the one who will build it and put at least half of the taxpayers’ money into his 6XL pockets

  4. Mat- 4-5 big airports to major cities and more cargo landing tracks to other cities. The Budapest Belgrade railway worth much more than you can imagine.
