Government: New registration point to open in Western Hungary
Budapest, September 10 (MTI) – The interior ministry will open a new registration point for illegal migrants at the site of the police secondary school in Kormend, western Hungary, government office chief said in a regular government press briefing on Thursday.
An MTI correspondent has seen tents being set up at the site. Istvan Bebes, the mayor of Kormend, confirmed that he has been informed by the ministry of its plans to set up a temporary registration point capable of accommodating up to 600 people. The mayor said that apart from tents, the registration point will be equipped with mobile toilets and showers.
Bebes said the ministry had assured the Kormend local government that the registration point will only operate for as long as it is needed and the government will “fully cooperate” with residents and guarantee their safety. Bebes said that he had called for a special session of the local council to inform its members about the government’s plans. The mayor expressed hopes that the fact that the registration point will be set up on police territory means that it will not disturb the town’s residents.
