Great Hungarian success at this year’s Oscars of gastronomy
Grapoila, a manufacturer of organic oil and seed flour products, was very popular at this year’s Great Taste Awards, and they were not the only Hungarian producers to get star ratings at the prestigious competition.
Great Taste Awards defines itself as “the UK’s largest and most trusted awards scheme for speciality food & drink”. And there is no doubt about that: this year, the jury tasted 12,777 food products from 106 countries over a period of three months.
The Awards, also considered as the ‘Oscars of gastronomy’, was established in 1994 to give recognition to the finest food products from all over the world.
As SokszÃnű Vidék writes, the competition is very popular among small manufacturers, “but only a fragment of them get a star rating from the jury”. This is why it is such delightful news that this year, Hungarian manufacturers had a sweeping success at this prestigious contest.
Marianna Pinczés, manager of Grapoila, has every right to be proud of her company’s success:
the manufacture, primarily specialised in organic flour and oil products, nominated six products this year, and each of them received at least one star rating.
These are the Organic Pumpkin Seed Flour, the Sunflower Seed Flour, the Cold Pressed Hazelnut Oil, the Cold Pressed Organic Sunflower Seed Oil, and the Grapoila Cold Pressed Grape Seed Oil (two stars), and the Cold Pressed Mustard Seed Oil (one star).
As Marianna explains, the story of Grapoila started in 2009 as a university project on grape seed oil, which was very popular at the time. Thanks to her parents’ support, she could soon buy all the necessary equipment and start her own entrepreneurship. Today, the superfood manufacturer has 18 different oil and seed flour products, and several types of butter and organic cosmetic products.
Through the zero-waste lifestyle and the use of local and organic ingredients, the company is devoted to creating high-quality, healthy, gluten-free products.
Granoila is not the only Hungarian manufacturer that received star ratings from the jury: other winning products include the many types of Tokaj Vicinitas Mangalica Salami, the Hodi Paprika products, and the vinegar products of Ko-Duett. For the complete list, click here.
