Head of foreign affairs committee: Minsk compliance important for ethnic Hungarians in W Ukraine
Budapest, June 20 (MTI) – Upholding the Minsk agreement is important from the perspective of ethnic Hungarians in western Ukraine, Zsolt Németh, the head of the Hungarian parliament’s foreign affairs committee, said on Monday.
Hungary broadly supports compliance with the Minsk agreement, which is vital for Ukraine’s sovereignty, Németh told MTI over the phone after attending the first day of a five-day session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
The Minsk agreement is an important part of calls for decentralisation in Ukraine, which the Hungarian population there is also counting on as a guarantee for their ability to exercise their human and minority rights.
László Brenzovics, the head of the Hungarian Cultural Federation of Transcarpathia (KMKSZ) and an MP in Kiev, will attend the Council of Europe sessions and address a meeting of the European People’s Party in the coming days, Németh noted, adding that this would be an important event.
