Attention! Highest level heat alert issued in Hungary from today

The chief health officer has issued a third degree — highest level — heat alert for the whole country from Thursday to midnight on Sunday, the Public Health Centre and the disaster management authority said in a statement.
The statement said that highest daytime temperatures could exceed 35 degrees in the next few days, and warned of the danger of dehydration, especially during outdoor programmes. In the hottest hours people should seek shade or facilities with air conditioning, it added.
The statement also called on people not to leave children, elderly persons or pets in parking cars, even for a short periods. Anyone seeing people or animals in locked cars should call 112, it added.
A ban on lighting fires stays in effect, the statement said. The prohibition does not apply to barbecues in private gardens, but the fire must not be left unattended, the statement said.
