Heatwave returns to Hungary: expect 36 degrees this week

Just when we thought summer was over, it is coming back to knock us down again. Only at the weekend will the chance of showers and thunderstorms increase. We can expect more persistent heat and mild nights this week. Do not put your sun hat and sunscreen away just yet.

The heatwave will continue this week with highs between 29 and 36 degrees Celsius. It will be followed by an increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms towards the end of the week, with more precipitation expected on Sunday, SzeretlekMagyarország reports.

Monday, 21 August

Monday will be mostly clear and sunny with only a few clouds and no precipitation. Winds will remain mostly light to moderate, with occasional strong gusts only in the Transdanubian region. Daytime highs are likely to be between 31 and 35 degrees Celsius.

Tuesday, 22 August

Tuesday will be sunny with few clouds and cloud cover. Precipitation is unlikely, but a few showers may develop. Air movement will remain mostly moderate. By dawn, temperatures will generally cool to between 18 and 22 degrees, but it may be a few degrees cooler in cold-prone areas and slightly milder on the waterfronts and in major cities. Daytime highs will be between 29 and 36 degrees.

Wednesday, 23 August

On Wednesday, with clouds and cloud cover, there will be a lot of sunshine in general, with a higher chance of showers and thunderstorms in the northern counties. Winds may increase only during thunderstorms. By dawn, temperatures will generally cool to between 18 and 22 degrees. Daytime highs are likely to be between 29 and 36 degrees.

Thursday, 24 August

On Thursday, sunny weather may be interrupted by cloudy skies, with showers and thunderstorms in places. Winds may increase only during thunderstorms. Temperatures will rise from 15-23 degrees in the morning to 28-35 degrees in the afternoon.

Friday, 25 August

On Friday, sunny skies and locally intensifying cloud cover may be disturbed by scattered showers and thunderstorms. Winds from the south may increase in places, with strong gusts during thunderstorms. 17-24 degrees at dawn, 28-36 degrees in the afternoon can be expected.

Saturday, 26 August

On Saturday, with heavy clouds, more or less sunshine and scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely. Winds, mostly still from the south, may increase, with gusts possible during thunderstorms. Temperatures will rise from 17-22 degrees in the morning to 28-36 degrees in the afternoon.

Sunday, 27 August

On Sunday, skies will be partly to mostly cloudy. Compared to the previous days, there is a higher chance of precipitation, so there will be a higher chance of rain, showers and thunderstorms in several places during the second half of the day. The wind will shift to the north-west, becoming stronger, and may increase in places. Minimum temperatures are likely to be between 17 and 23 degrees, maximum between 26 and 35 degrees.
