How much money do Olympians in Hungary get?
Winning a medal or performing well at the Olympics is always a great honour. Interestingly, each country has a different way of rewarding these excellent sportsmen and sportswomen. Olympians in Hungary receive a cash prize and annuities.
Olympians in Hungary get a cash prize
As Player.hu writes, the Hungarian government increased the amount of money awarded for Olympic and Paralympic medals, as well as other achievements. This decision was made back in December 2023 and became official shortly before the Paris Olympics in 2024.
In addition, Olympic and Paralympic medallists also receive a lifetime annuity from the age of 35. The amount of this annuity is adjusted to their average annual earnings, as determined by the Central Statistical Office (KSH). For Olympic gold medallists, this means a gross amount of HUF 418,000 (EUR 1,063), with silver medallists receiving 70%, and bronze medallists 50%, of this amount.
The cash prize of Olympians in Hungary:
- 1st place: HUF 55 million (EUR 140 thousand)
- 2nd place: HUF 39.27 million (EUR 100 thousand)
- 3rd place: HUF 32.35 million (EUR 82 thousand)
- 4th place: HUF 23.65 million (EUR 60 thousand)
- 5th place: HUF 15.73 million (EUR 40 thousand)
- 6th place: HUF 12.54 million (EUR 32 thousand)
- 7th place: HUF 6.27 million (EUR 16 thousand)
- 8th place: HUF 3.08 million (EUR 8 thousand)
The cash prize of Paralympians in Hungary:
- 1st place: HUF 27.5 million (EUR 70 thousand)
- 2nd place: HUF 19.635 million (EUR 50 thousand)
- 3rd place: HUF 15.675 million (EUR 40 thousand)
- 4th place: HUF 11.825 million (EUR 30 thousand)
- 5th place: HUF 7.865 million (EUR 20 thousand)
- 6th place: HUF 6.27 million (EUR 16 thousand)
- 7th place: HUF 3.135 million (EUR 8 thousand)
- 8th place: HUF 1.54 million (EUR 4 thousand)
