Hungarian city among the 20 romantic alternatives to Europe’s most crowded gateways for Valentine’s Day

Szeged is among the 20 romantic alternatives to Europe’s most crowded gateways for Valentine’s Day if you want to escape crowds. The charming Southern Hungarian town built on the banks of River Tisza offers a great variety of culinary, cultural or entertainment experiences, which makes it a perfect holiday destination for you and your loved ones even to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Here are the alternatives
Nomad selected 20 alternative cities and towns to substitute crowded gateways like Rome, Paris, or Barcelona for Valentine’s Day. For example, they recommend visiting the charming French town of Colmar instead of Paris or Verona instead of Rome on Valentine’s Day to avoid crowds. They recommend travelling to Graz instead of Vienna or Stirling instead of Edinburgh on 14 February. They also say that you should choose Szeged instead of the crowded Budapest to celebrate with your love because Szeged is “known for its stunning architecture, and thermal baths offering a more laid-back experience.”
Later, they write that “for couples looking for the romantic vibes that Budapest has to offer, Szeged is the ideal alternative. This charming city exudes a more serene, small-town romance with its tree-lined boulevards, art nouveau architecture, and quaint riverside promenades. Couples can wander through the verdant Széchenyi Square, dotted with fountains and sculptures, or enjoy a candlelit dinner in one of the city’s elegant cafés.”

Szeged is the perfect place to spend Valentine’s Day in Hungary
What’s more, it is very easy to travel to Szeged from Budapest, especially if you come to visit Hungary by plane. You only have to get on the 200E airport shuttle bus (or select a cab) and catch the InterCity train at the Ferihegy train station. After a roughly 2-hour-long train ride, you will arrive to the “city of sunshine” built on the banks of River Tisza.

Szeged offers a variety of cultural, culinary and entertainment experiences ranging from museums to pools and spas, from the buildings of its historic downtown to its famous parks and fountains, from its well-known restaurants, offering e.g. traditional Szeged fisherman’s soup (HERE is our guide) to its charming cafés. It has cinemas, theatres, clubs and multiple romantic, narrow alleys to go for a short or long walk with your love. Its Tisza bank is also magnificent.

According to its website, “Nomad’s mission is to inspire travel by curating experiences from thousands of locals and kindred-spirit travellers while taking away worry about a modern decidedly digital concern: the high cost of data roaming charges.”
