Even at the weekend or early next week at the latest, Hungary will close the Croatian border – origo.hu learned from government sources. According to the politicians commented to the portal, we have to prepare for “more violent” situations than after the crossing of Roszke border.
According to the information of origo.hu, due to the complete closing of borders the same system will come into effect like at the Serbian border, ie. the refugees who enter the territory of Hungary, can be arrested. The sources said the Croats deliberately reduced the water level of the river Drava, in order to be possible to cross on foot as well. Nevertheless, the river still can be very dangerous, because the backwash is very strong.
Accrording to the data of vizugy.hu, the current water level is only 41 cm, but its water discharge is 324 cubic meters per second. This means that backwash is extremely strong.
The Croatian answer can be hard
It is not known what the Croatian response to the Hungarian border closing will be. The Zagreb cabinet called Plan B that the refugees had been transported to the Hungarian and Slovenian borders. Pro-government politicians have repeatedly called earlier that there would be a Plan C as well, but they did not officially acknowledged its plan.
However, two plans have been leaked: on of it says, if the border closing comes into force, the Croats guide the large groups of refugees not to the border crossing points, but to the green border.
Thus, the illegal immigrants arrive chaotically and unsupervised at the Hungarian border, and the Hungarian authorities can control them much harder.
Another leaked information says Plan C would mean that Croatia would send the refugees back to Serbia.
The blockade lasts longer
Until the Horgos border crossing is opened before the refugees at the Serbian-Hungarian border, the Serb vehicles cannot go to Croatia, Ranko Ostojic said. The Croatian Minister of Interior, however, has denied that the entry of Serbian citizens would be prohibited. Belgrade newspapers reported earlier that the admission of several Serbian citizens was prevented by the Croatian authorities, origo.hu wrote.
According to the Croatian Minister, the end of the Serbian-Croatian border’s blockade depends on the number of refugees arriving in Hungary from Serbia. The Zagreb cabinet said Budapest and Belgrade had agreed the refugees from Serbia would be sent only to Croata.
When the first refugees appeared at the Croatian border crossings after the Hungarian border closing, Zagreb closed its borders from the cargo traffic coming from Serbia. On Wednesday night, Belgrade introduced responses and banned the import of Croatian goods and the entry of Croatian vehicles. In response, Zagreb tightened the existing blockade.
Thousands of refugees arrive daily
The police have taken actions against more than 5 thousand illegal immigrants on Tuesday, 291of them entered illegally at the Hungarian-Serbian border section and 4823 at the Hungarian-Croatian section.
According to the annual totals, 237 526 illegal immigrants arrived in the territory of Hungary, actions were taken against 202 185 people at the Hungarian-Serbian section and against 34 782 people at the Hungarian-Croatian section.
