Hungarian embassy in Prague painted in red by protesters

Two Czech civic activists, known by the pseudonyms “Pražský Pérák” and “Bohemian Queen,” poured red paint over the fence of the Hungarian embassy in Prague.

Through this symbolic act, they sought to draw attention to the Hungarian government’s responsibility regarding the war. Their protest was in response to a statement made by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in an interview, in which he said: “Russia has won the war in Ukraine, and the only question now is when the West supporting Ukraine will acknowledge this.”

The activists believe that by making this statement, Viktor Orbán openly declared Hungary’s alignment with the Russian camp, thereby repudiating the values upon which democratic Europe is founded. The Czechs emphasised that they cannot stand idly by while lies are spread and attacks on civilians are legitimised, writes Index.

“Today, through a symbolic act — with ‘blood’ on the fence of the Hungarian embassy — we reminded Hungary of its responsibility for the victims of the war. Among them are not only Ukrainian defenders, but also children and other civilians who are killed in their homes, schools, and hospitals,” the activists said, responding to the Hungarian Prime Minister’s remarks during the Patrióta programme.

Footage of the event was also recorded and posted on the Facebook page of Csehszlovák Kém, clearly showing the embassy’s fence covered in red paint.

There has been no official response so far from the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the incident.
