Hungarian firefighters worked 133 locations on the first day of Christmas
On the first day of Christmas, 185 emergency calls were received by the disaster management, 133 fire brigades were needed to intervene – the spokesman of the National Disaster Management Directorate General (OKF) told MTI on Monday.
According to Dániel Mukics, firefighters were called in 31 cases of fires and 102 times for accidents requiring technical rescue; on Sunday, there were a total of 21 house fires.
On Sunday morning in Tiszakürt, an outbuilding and a tractor, and a car in the attached carport were on fire, the flames spread to the roof structure of the main building.
In the afternoon, a passenger car burnt in Vila, and a fatal motorcycle accident in Zalaegerszeg gave firefighters a job to do. In Tarnabod, a family house caught fire and became uninhabitable, in Mátészalka, a kitchen burnt down due to food left on the stove, and in Szeged, a cat trapped in a gutter had to be rescued.
In Budaörs, a fatal train accident required the intervention of the emergency services, who helped 300 people on the train to transfer to the relief train.
In the evening, a fire broke out in an apartment of a three-storey apartment building in Győr, a weekend house in Miskolc was burnt down and became uninhabitable, and in Székesfehérvár, a garbage dumpster of an apartment building caught fire. The latter fire forced 78 people to temporarily leave the building.
The spokesman said that a carbon monoxide detector had also saved lives in a family house in Szárliget and in Göd.
Even at Christmas time, two thousand firefighters are on duty with five hundred vehicles, who will be on duty within 120 seconds of the alarm if there is a problem, the spokesman added in the statement.
