Vasas were the big winners of the 12th round of the 2016/2017 NBI season as they stretched their lead at the top of the table to four points over the chasing pack, mlsz.hu reports.

All the goals in the Angyalföld team’s 3-2 home victory over MTK came in the first half in the Illovszky stadion at Fay utca, Martin Ádám’s 18th-minute penalty cancelling out Vadnai’s 4th-minute opener before Sándor Toghelle restored the visitors’ lead three minutes later. Enter the half-Turkish, half-German Mahir Saglik who celebrated his first and second goals of the season within ten minutes either side of the half-hour mark. There was no addition to the scoreline which gave the red-and-blues their third win in a row over MTK but youngster Zsombor Berecz was dismissed for a second bookable offence in the 89th minute to ensure a nervy ending.

Nevertheless, Michael Oenning’s team took the win to move onto 25 points, four points clear of Haladás in second place on 21.

The club from Szombathely managed by Géza Mészöly moved one point clear in runners-up spot thanks to a 2-0 home success over nine-man Ferencváros, Bálint Gaál and Bence Iszlai both scoring second-half goals inbetween which Michal Nalepa and Emir Dilaver incurred second yellow cards to leave the visitors with just nine men, a situation made even worse when the injured Roland Varga had to leave the pitch near the end of the match which left Thomas Doll’s team with only eight players on the pitch.

The current league title-holders are now fourth in NBI on 19 points, one behind Videoton who missed the chance to keep up the pressure on leaders Vasas by surprisingly losing 2-0 away at bottom club Diosgyőr. Soma Novothny scored his third goal in four games in the 74th minute before Ákos Elek added another on the counter to secure Diosgyőr’s first league win since July and move them on to 11 points, one behind Paks who occupy the other relegation spot. They also didn’t go pointless this weekend, picking up one point courtesy of a 1-1 draw at home to Debreceni VSC, László Bartha putting Aurél Csertői’s team ahead in the 13th minute before 81-times capped Slovak international Robert Vittek equalised for the away team.
