Hungarian state railways to buy double decker electric trains from Stadler
Budapest, April 12 (MTI) – MÁV-Start, the passenger transport division of Hungarian state railways, is purchasing forty Stadler-KISS double decker electric trains with the plan to deploy them in the spring of 2019, it was announced on Wednesday after the contract was signed.
Bence Tuzson, state secretary for government communication and ministerial commissioner in charge of guided line technology development, told the event that the Hungarian contribution to the production of the double decker trains will be more than 50 percent.
Vehicle manufacturing is a driving force of the Hungarian economy and Hungary has long tradition of manufacturing fixed-track vehicles, he said. The government has approved an action plan for developing the sector, including upgrading trains, suburban trains and metro 1 underground trains, he added.
