Hungarian success at European Beer Star 2016
Szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu writes that the Hungarian HopTop Brewery won a bronze medal in the Dry Stout category at the European Beer Star 2016 competition, where high quality European beers full of character are awarded every year. This is the first Hungarian acknowledgement at the competition.
“Winning any type of medal was especially hard this year” said Oliver Dawid, the director of Private Brauereien Bayern. The competition is held since 2003 introducing more and more participants every year. This year 2,103 beers were entered from 44 countries, which makes European Beer Star one of the most popular and illustrious beer competitions in the world.
This award means a lot to HopTop Brewery, since the quite new brewery is the first Hungarian contestant to be acknowledged in Nurnberg. Szami Ali Rawech, the owner of HopTop Brewery and the creator of the winner Midnight Express beer, is, of course, very pleased with the award. “We are very happy with this award since we can finally attract attention to high quality Hungarian beers!”
Midnight Express is a real genuine stout with silky smooth creamy froth. When cool, it is characterised by roasted, coffee-like smell and flavour, and as it slowly warms up it gets dominated by chocolatey flavours.
The European Beer Star’s recognition is – among others – due to its professional and strict judges. This year 124 experts evaluated the beers by blind testing the harmony of the colours, the smell and the flavours. The judges included master brewers, famous experts and beer sommeliers from 30 countries.
Moreover, if the judges don’t find a beer that reaches the expected level of quality in a certain category, then they don’t award any beer in that category. Considering all the conditions, we can definitely say that the Hungarian success is a huge acknowledgement. Congratulations!
