Hungarians earn the least in the EU, after Romanians and Bulgarians

According to Eurostat data, companies spend the third least on Hungarian workers in the EU. This means that Hungarians earn the least, after Romanians and Bulgarians, the vice-president of the Democratic Coalition (DK) said at an online press conference on Tuesday.

László Varju said that the wages of Hungarian workers have “fallen to Balkan or even Asian standards” during the past 13 years of the Orbán government, mti.hu reports. Romanians and Bulgarians are slowly earning more than Hungarians in their own country, while wages offered in Hungary are mostly only acceptable for Asian guest workers, he added.

For this reason, Hungarians who want to live in European prosperity, who want to move forward, are forced to go abroad to work, the MEP said.

Education and upbringing support for Hungarian children abroad will increase to HUF 100,000

This year’s calls for proposals of the State Secretariat for National Policy’s Hungarian in the Homeland programme have been published. According to them, the educational support for Hungarian children abroad will increase from HUF 22,400 (EUR 59.68) to HUF 100,000 (EUR 266.40), Árpád János Potápi announced at a press conference in Budapest on Tuesday.

The Minister of State for National Policy of the Prime Minister’s Office said that the fundamental national policy and national strategy goals will not be abandoned in the difficult economic situation caused by the war, and mother tongue education is a guarantee of the survival of the community in every foreign region.

He pointed out that the support was decided on during the first Orbán government. He added that on the basis of the Status Act, educational, textbook and teaching aids are provided in the field of public education from the 2002/2003 academic year, as well as student allowances in higher education.

The aim is for parents to enrol their children in Hungarian-language schools. Children who go to such institutions are more likely to retain their Hungarian identity, he stressed.

  1. Yes, but the cost of living in Hungary is also among the lowest in Europe. A German may earn five times more than a Hungarian, but he also pays five times more for gas, electric, food, rent, etc. These comparisons of salaries are therefore meaningless on their own.

  2. A Germa does NOT pay 5X for food, gas amd electricity. They do probably travel more and have nicer cars.
