When will they get home?! – Hungarians left in Tunisia
The calvary started on Friday evening when more than 100 Hungarians were left in Tunisia due to a technical problem with their scheduled plane. The even bigger problem is that no other aircraft was sent to take the disappointed passengers home. The majority of Hungarians travelled with Kartago Tours travel agency and planned to come home with Tunisair flight.
Based on the information of the Hungarian news portal Hvg, an aeroplane was sent to transport home those passengers who were waiting at the airport – they arrived at 8 am on Saturday, so the plane was delayed for 16 hours – but there are still many people who are left in the country.
Previously, the airline’s local representative said they could not send a new aircraft due to the fact that so many foreigners were leaving after Thursday’s detonations in Tunis, as a result of which there was no more capacity.
According to a reader of Hvg, – whose family is also concerned – the whole incident started with a delay as their flight was supposed to depart on Friday afternoon, but they were not taken to the airport until 11 pm. Before that time, they were waiting at the hotel reception as they had to leave their rooms by noon. Later on, passengers were informed that their plane would depart at 1 am on Saturday morning. A shuttle bus took them to the airport at midnight where they were told that the aeroplane would not depart. At 3 am, they were taken to a hotel in Monastir where – “with great difficulty” – they were provided accommodation. There, they were promised to get informed about the relating news.
“There are some passengers who were close to the detonations in Tunis and were shocked – explosions happened just 50-100 metres from them.”
The person who provided information would like to say thanks to the Tunisian authorities, who evacuated tourists from the dangerous sites.
Still, there are some passengers left in Tunisia. Despite the fact that they have been waiting for over a day, it is not known yet when they would get home. The victims created a Facebook community where they require compensation for the damages caused.
