Hungarians travel more, spend more abroad
Budapest (MTI) – In the first quarter of this year, Hungarians paid a total 3.6 million visits to other countries, 5.4 percent up from the same period last year, according to Central Statistical Office (KSH) data.
Spending by those Hungarian visitors amounted to 125 billion forints (EUR 400m), up 13 percent compared to 2014, a fresh KSH report released on Thursday said.
The report noted that it was the number of longer visits which accounted for the increase, while single-day trips, mostly to Austria and Slovakia, had dropped in the January-March period.
Over 50 percent of the trips were made by tourists, 15 percentage points up from 2014.
