Hungarians travel more, spend more abroad in Q1
Budapest, June 14 (MTI) – Hungarians paid a total 4.2 million visits to other countries in January-March this year, up by 17 percent from the same period last year, business daily Világgazdaság said on Tuesday, citing data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH).
Hungarian visitors spent 164 billion forints (EUR 523.9m) abroad, up by 32 percent compared with 2015, according to the data.
Over the preceding years, spending by Hungarians abroad usually amounted to around 90-110 billion forints.
KSH’s Csaba Gilyán told the paper that the increase had even surprised the statistical office. Turnover was remarkably high both inside and outside the Schengen Area, he said.
The data included not only guest visits, but work, business and study-related visits as well.
