Hungarians working abroad send home remittances worth 1.8 pc of GDP
(MTI) – Up to October last year, 2,403 million US dollars arrived in Hungary from remittances sent by Hungarians working abroad, equal to 1.8 percent of economic output, according to World Bank data.
In Poland the ratio was 1.4 percent, in Romania and Slovakia 2.1 percent while in the Czech Republic the same proportion was 1 percent, Nepszava daily said, reporting on the figures.
Altogether 462,000 Hungarians have emigrated, representing 4.6 percent of the population. The most favoured destinations are Germany and the United Kingdom.
